01Main mission order
The supplied IGN hub confirms a prologue followed by a linear sequence of named story stages. Eastern Kyoto acts as a recurring home base between missions, so the campaign is not one uninterrupted corridor. Return visits introduce allies, side activities, upgrades, and routes into the next major area.
Use this as a spoiler-light order rather than a room-by-room script. Mission names after the opening can reveal the shape of the campaign, but the list avoids boss identities and story outcomes. Complete available preparation at Spirit Mirrors before committing to a new stage.
- Prologue → The Ruckus at Rendaino → The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu
- Kyoto, Corrupted → The Oni's Apprentice → Careful What You Wish For
- The Curse of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope → A Strength in Refuge → Patching up the Pouch
- Windswept Kennin-ji → An Immortal Talent → What Lurks in the Shadows
- The Light of Vengeance → The Roots of All Evil → Bloodbath on the Bridge
- Shadows Fall → A Tempest at the Temple → To Live is to Suffer
02Early-game priorities
The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu awards the first regular charm, Charm of the Healer, and contains The Two Celestials in a chest freed after destroying the spider weaving the second thread. Explore the cave before opening the previously trapped gate. The armament makes enemies drop more healing Yellow Souls when used.
During The Oni's Apprentice, unlock Deflect and complete its Practice Ground drill. Ono Takamura then rewards Wind-Whipper, a crowd-control naginata that staggers nearby enemies. If its whirlwind catches environmental fire, it becomes a damaging firestorm.
03Use Kyoto between story missions
Do not treat the hub as a menu screen. Side Stories and Kyoto Mysteries provide most regular charms, while distressed citizens can reward food. Offer food at Enma's Hall to gain favor, then spend favor and Red Souls on charm enhancement.
Spirit Mirrors handle saving and fast travel and later expose skill, equipment, and additional-content functions. Open shortcuts and revisit blocked routes as new tools become available. This preparation is especially useful because full-game reviews report a much sharper late-campaign difficulty curve than the demo suggests.
04What Lurks in the Shadows
This mission contains the Underground Laboratory mask puzzle. Four masks in front of shoji screens cast different shadow openings; match those clues to the four masks above the locked cage. Using positions counted from the left, shoot the cage-side masks in the order third, fourth, first, second.
The mission also contains Earth Shakers after Dokyo's descending-blade trap. Shoot all four thread spools that spin the fans, cross the wreckage, and open the chest. Earth Shakers deal stamina and armor damage rather than ordinary health damage, making them valuable against armored targets and bosses.
05Later Oni Armaments to check
During Shadows Fall, search south of the Gojo Street East Spirit Mirror near the previously closed rift for Firebird Flute. The chest can be missed during the mission, but the supplied guide says the location remains accessible later. The flute summons flaming birds that can be fired toward enemies.
In The Demon on the Mount, enter the off-route cave in the northern Castle Courtyard to find Flashing Void. At Arashiyama, search the small northern path in the Swamp for Still Water, the easiest armament to miss. It strengthens sword use and helps generate Purple Souls for Oni Awakening.
06Cleanup and point of no return
The supplied collectible material says free roaming remains available until the point of no return before The Clash at Rendaino. Keep a manual save there if you want to finish collectibles and optional tasks without replaying the campaign. Do not rely only on a rolling autosave near the final sequence.
Before advancing, review incomplete Side Stories, Kyoto Mysteries, charm rewards, and Oni Armament locations. Upgrade the charms that support your actual defensive habits instead of spreading materials evenly. The final stretch rewards familiarity with parry, deflect, Issen, and soul management more than raw collection percentage.
